Position Overview: As a Remote Mortgage Underwriter, you will evaluate and analyze loan documents to ensure compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This entry-level position focuses on reviewing lower-complexity documents and aims to build your expertise in credit analysis, risk assessment, and best underwriting practices. Your contributions will be vital in maintaining loan quality, supporting team workflows, and enhancing the overall customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess loan documents to determine borrower eligibility and identify potential fraud.
  • Recognize deviations from standard requirements and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Complete underwriting tasks in compliance with program requirements, internal guidelines, and legal/regulatory standards.
  • Ensure adherence to investor and company policies, SOPs, and compliance rules.
  • Maintain efficient turnaround times and service-level expectations.
  • Review corporate documentation for entity borrowers thoroughly.
  • Research property taxes to establish appropriate escrows.
  • Examine title commitments for alignment with company and investor guidelines.
  • Verify that all lending conditions are fulfilled prior to closing transactions.
  • Support underwriters by managing urgent or time-sensitive communications to balance workflow volume.
  • Utilize QC tools (such as FraudGuard and LexisNexis) and accurately update system records.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service throughout the underwriting process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows and process improvements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned based on business needs.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm CST

Salary Range: $29.80 - $40.04/hr (Non-Exempt/Hourly/Overtime Eligible)

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in the mortgage industry with a strong understanding of Non-QM documentation.
  • Solid manual underwriting skills with attention to detail.
  • Tech-savvy and proficient in navigating multiple systems.
  • Strong documentation review skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance.
  • Capability to manage time-sensitive tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Must meet designated timelines for all required training.
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and proactive in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Internal Applicants: Must meet minimum qualifications and have no recent disciplinary actions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Non-QM Loans and underwriting DSCR loans.
  • Associate and/or bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Calyx Point and Salesforce.
